WHY WE WALK
Over 500,000 individuals in Florida struggle with epilepsy, making it the state with the most instances in our country. Epilepsy, a common neurological condition that 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with at some point in their lives, is a diagnosis when a person experiences two or more seizures that cannot be attributed to another cause. It is a disorder more people live with than autism, Parkinsonβs disease, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy β combined.βΒ Epilepsy impacts every aspect of oneβs life and every person in it, and the number rises when you include the families and caregivers.
Walk the TalkΒ is Epilepsy Alliance Floridaβs annual statewide awareness walk seriesβbringing communities together to raise awareness, break the silence around epilepsy, and fund critical local programs and services. Since launching in 2008, more thanΒ 56,100 participantsΒ have walked alongside us, helping raiseΒ over $3.5 millionΒ to support individuals and families living with epilepsy across Florida. Rooted in a legacy that began inΒ 1971, Walk the Talk is more than a walkβitβs a powerful movement toward a future where people with epilepsy can live fully supported and empowered lives.
